Updated July Minutes

American Legion Riders

Chapter 777

July 27, 2008

Officers Present:  Al Voiles--Pres., Butch Schmid--VP, Dolores Brown--Treasurer, Ed Hall--Sec., Steve Kawecki--Sgt. At Arms, Bob Brown & Doyle Tolbert--Road Captains

Meeting called to order at 10:55 AM by Al Voiles, President

Welcomed new member Bob Breggar and his guest Marie Martenson

MinutesFirst meeting, no previous minutes to be read

Treasurers Report – Al wants each member to give thought to fund raisers. We need to get a bank account started. We’ll need set-up money for activities and must consider preparing tax returns that require using our Tax ID number. The Commander’s report (CPR) now includes the ALR. We want to stay classified as a Non-Profit organization.

Uniform—(Patches) For all future purposes the only authorized patches must be purchased through the American Legion. The cost is $65 for the full set but current members will be “grandfathered” and acceptable. There is a slight difference in the patches. Al has two patches left.

(Berets) Al showed the one that can be purchased through the military and it was passed around with one purchased from the American Legion sales for examples. Officers should wear the beret or the standard American Legion hat for all meetings.

Resolution—It was voted at the National Convention last year that the ALR will continue as an advisory group within the American Legion. Care must be shown in conduct, dress, etc. and patches from other motorcycle clubs are not allowed on the vest. Patches from the Patriot Guard or HOG are acceptable. Vulgarity is not allowed. Al corrected the minutes stating that the ALR is no longer an advisory group but is now an organization within the American Legion such as SAL and ALA.

By-Laws—Al discussed an e-mail regarding California definition of a motorcycle as having an engine over 70cc in size. This will require a change in our By-Laws. Al is working on the rewording that will be needed. Al wants this organization to remain a “member’s organization” with all decisions being made by the membership.

Charities—Doyle and Steve spoke about making Chapter 777 officially sponsoring Casa Colina as a charity. The sponsorship would be more in the form of man-hours than money. Contact with Dr. Phil at Casa Colina is in work and there should be more information at the next meeting. There was a motion and second to table this decision until the next meeting when more information has been obtained. It was voted and passed to table until August meeting.

Doyle also spoke about the Garden of Angels which brought about the Safe Surrender laws that allows mothers to surrender babies at hospitals or fire stations rather than putting them in dumpsters. It was noted that this could be the main charity for Chapter 777 to support with fund raising events. There was a motion and second to make Garden of Angels the main charity for Chapter 777. It was voted and passed unanimously.

Al spoke about a newspaper article about Nina McCoy with Western University Health Services. Vets are donating their bodies for research with the remains being cremated. The Missing in America group is trying to locate veterans to be properly buried. There will be nine people buried on August 6th.

Fund Raisers—Al discussed the need to start raising funds for the chapter. Monies will be needed for a variety of reasons including charities, chapter operating expenses and other activities. Bob asked about making a donation to the Legacy Fund. Al agrees this is possible when we have funds in the bank. Al wants each member to give serious thought to ways to raise money.

Next Meeting & Ride—The next ride will be August 24 meeting at Post 262 with a ride in the morning and then the meeting and lunch after the ride. Doyle suggested meeting at 8:00 AM for the ride. Road captains will advise Butch and he’ll notify everyone. Doyle asked for suggestions for future rides.

Meeting was adjourned at 12:10 PM.

Respectfully submitted,

Ed Hall   2008 Secretary

American Legion Riders

Chapter 777

August 24, 2008

Officers Present:  Al Voiles--Pres., Butch Schmid--VP, Dolores Brown--Treasurer, Ed Hall--Sec.,  Bob Brown & Doyle Tolbert--Road Captains

Meeting called to order at 12:15pm by Al Voiles, President

Al led us in the Pledge of Allegiance

MinutesMinutes were read and Al made a correction: ALR is not an advisory group but considered now a part of the American Legion such as the SAL and ALA groups. Ed will make the correction.

Treasurers Report – no report for this meeting

Old Business— Al is waiting for a call from the State of California with the new definition of  a motorcycle. Once California has finalized this, Al will be able to change the ALR By-Laws that currently show the definition as a bike with an engine that is 350cc in size.

Casa Colima discussions were again tabled until the next meeting when more information should be available.

New Business--- Al wants to get an “Emergency Notification Card” program started. One bike went down during the ride today and there were injuries to the lady passenger. Luckily, her husband was there with needed information for her. Al suggested that two folders be made with this information for all riders to be given to the Road Captains. Doyle suggested everyone enter “ICE” (in case of emergency) into their cell phones for emergency contacts. Butch will try to obtain wallet cards and Al will put something together for us. Necessary information will include name, age, medications, medical conditions, etc.

John T. suggested having a first aid kit to carry on all rides.

Kristine Bachar will be presented with a Gold Star banner on September 4th at Post 262. All members are urged to attend.

Delores noted that the first Friday of each month is “Cruise Night” in Fontana. A booth can be obtained for a fee of $15 (fifteen dollars) and this can be a way to advertise the ALR. Bob would like to have all the bikes show up and park at the booth. Doyle made a motion to look into this for Friday October 3rd (5:00 to 8:00pm) and other local events (Route 66, San Bernardino, etc.). Pete provided a second to the motion. Doyle amended his motion to rent the booth and bring the bikes. It was voted and passed.

Doyle informed us that the Moms for Military Prayer Group is meeting on October 2nd and we are invited to “meet and greet” with them and answer any questions they might have about the ALR. He also mentioned that Tuesday, August 26th, would be a ride at 4:30pm to meet the founder of Garden of Angels. Local riders would meet at Beech and the 210 freeway. Al requested that as many riders as possible show up for this ride.

No Chute informed us that Rancho Cucamonga was charging families for the banners for family members serving in the military. This has been fought for months and they will now be free. He borrowed the banner from Post 262 to take to his next meeting.

Doyle asked about receiving a list of meeting dates and times for different American Legion posts so we can attend and discuss ALR.

Butch passed out rosters for review and necessary corrections. He will distribute for all members.

It was mentioned that the Snowball Express will be coming up December 14—16 with two flights coming in to the Orange County airport. This is for families that lost husbands and fathers in Iraq and they will spend the weekend in Los Angeles to attend Disneyland, Universal Studios and other events.

Dues for 2009 are now being collected ($25 individual / $35 couple).

New Members— Ralph Hiller (Lucky) and William Muller (Dollar Bill) attended the meeting. There was a motion and second (for each) to be accepted as new members. Each vote passed and they were welcomed into ALR Chapter 777.

Next Meeting & Ride—The next meeting will be September 21st at 10:00am. The meeting will be held at Post 777 with a ride to Arrowhead for lunch (after the meeting).

Meeting was adjourned at 1:14 pm.

Chapter 777

September 21, 2008

Officers Present:  Al Voiles--Pres., Butch Schmid--VP, Dolores Brown--Treasurer, Ed Hall--Sec.,  Bob Brown & Doyle Tolbert--Road Captains

Meeting called to order at 10:05am by Al Voiles, President (at Post 777 in San Bernardino).

MinutesMinutes are posted on the website.

Treasurers Report – Delores reported that the balance was $809 with a check going to the American Legion leaving a balance of $737. The account is with Arrowhead Credit Union and is basically a free account Checks were ordered and will cost $58.

Old Business— Al is waiting for information (regarding the definition of a motorcycle) from the State of California.

Getting a booth for “Cruise Night” may be deferred to Friday, November 7th.

Dollar Bill now has his patch.

Bob informed us that District 25 has a website that lists Posts and meeting times if Doyle wants to check for attending other meetings in regard to the ALR.

New Business--- Paula’s e-mail was discussed regarding Sunday meetings conflicting with church. Saturday meetings were proposed or Sunday afternoon meetings. Hawkeye proposed alternate Sundays as a possibility. John noted that Saturday meetings present the most conflicts because of people working, PGR rides, etc. Butch will talk more with Paula for more input and relay today’s discussion. It was established that this can’t be decided by any one person in the group. One possibility discussed was planning a ride to a destination where we can eat and then conduct the meeting such as a park or restaurant. The majority of the group wants to have the meetings on Sundays.

Doyle mentioned establishing a safety dress code for rides and Al agreed.

John and Billie donated two first aid kits for the Road Captains to carry on the rides. These are very nice kits that are well equipped but need ace bandages to help complete them. They come with very nice emergency light kits and were donated to John to be used as examples for fund raisers. The “light kits” cost $120 and may be a bit expensive for fund raising. John also made sample emergency identification cards that can go into the kits. The forms need to be filled out and turned in.

Butch bought a “Heat Stress” kit and has it in his saddle bags. Al discussed staying hydrated with more than just water as there is a need to replace electrolytes as well (ex: Crystal Light).

Butch noted that 2009 dues ($25 individual/$35 couples) are due and being collected.

Doyle informed us that the Moms for Military Prayer Group is meeting on October 2nd and we are invited to “meet and greet” with them and answer any questions they might have about the ALR.

Doyle also mentioned that he’ll be meeting with the Board from Garden of Angels Safe Surrender to get more information about their organization. Al wants to concentrate on this group to get the word out in order to prevent infant deaths.

A new group called Friends of Casa met to discuss a fund raiser for Casa Colina Hospital and they are to meet on Monday night with Dr. Phil to discuss the path forward for this endeavor.

Bob discussed a ride on October 5th to the Loma Linda Car Show. Everyone will meet at Chapter 777 at 10:45am with kick stands up between 11:00 & 11:15. The monies go to the long term residents at the VA for activities such as movies, shopping, etc.

The Golden State Glendale Poker Run was mentioned with proceeds going to Guide Dogs of America. This takes place on September 28th with a cost of $25 per person.

There is a homecoming being planned for troops returning from Iraq and Viet Nam veterans. The date is to be determined but is expected to be at the Rose Bowl with the City of Pasadena covering the costs.

John talked about a contact list for the PGR calendar of California events only. Contact John to be included on the list.

There is a “gift wrap” for the VA Hospital that will involve bagging things up to take to the hospital.

Next Meeting & Ride—The next meeting will be October 26th with the time and place to be announced. Suggested locations were Big Bear or Post 112 in Ontario (Butch will talk with Paula).

Meeting was adjourned at 11:30 am.

Chapter 777

October 26, 2008

Officers Present: Butch Schmid--VP, Dolores Brown--Treasurer, Steve Kawecki—Sgt. At Arms, Bob Brown & Doyle Tolbert--Road Captains

Meeting called to order by Butch Schmid, Vice President

MinutesMinutes are posted on the website.

Treasurers Report – Delores reported she received $70 for 2009 dues for two members who were not present (John & Janette). We’ll vote them in at the next meeting. A new prospect was introduced and a motion was made with a second. It was voted and passed to add him as a member when his dues are paid and all paperwork is completed.

Old Business— Al is waiting for information (regarding the definition of a motorcycle) from the State of California.

Still getting information on a booth for “Cruise Night”.

Butch discussed meeting days on the weekend. Most people prefer Sundays but Butch wants everyone to be flexible on this subject. Most meetings will still probably be on Sunday but we may try to have some on Saturday to accommodate everyone.

Butch reminded everyone about the safety dress code Doyle spoke of from the last meeting. Proper dress for our rides will reduce injuries.

The emergency identification cards need to be completed by everyone and put into the first aid kits.

Butch has a “Heat Stress” kit in his saddle bags.

The Friends of Casa meeting is on the calendar with a possible meeting on Nov. 1rst

New Business---

John discussed an on-line link for doing fund raisers. This website offers ways to make money from auctions. It will cost $500.00 to get started for the first auction. After the initial fee, we can hold as many auctions as we are able. We will need to get businesses to donate items that can be auctioned. Bob suggested checking for the website’s license to verify they are legitimate. There was a motion and second to check into this further. It was voted and passed.

Nov.8th is the Chapter 555 Poker Run and Butch will be attending. He wants to show support for the other Chapters in order to ask them to support our Chapter when we have events. Butch had flyers for anyone interested.

Doyle spoke about an event conducted by the Mayor of Rancho Cucamonga (Jim Frost) at Alta Loma High School. This is a memorial for the Viet Nam Veterans. Doyle will get some information out for the Chapter.

No Chute talked about the need for volunteers for the USO near terminal one at LAX. He also spoke about San Bernardino not having banners for our troops. He also brought patches he had made for the Snowball Express. The patches are being sold for $10 and you receive 2 at that price. He had enough made to be able to hand them out to the kids. Butch wants to make the Snowball Express a Chapter ride.

Butch asked about having a Chapter Christmas party.

Next Meeting & Ride—The next meeting will be November 22nd (Saturday)

Meeting was adjourned.

Chapter 777

November 22, 2008

Officers Present: Al Voiles--Pres., Butch Schmid--VP, Ed Hall--Sec., Steve Kawecki—Sgt.-at-Arms, Doyle Tolbert--Road Captain

Meeting called to order at 10:15am by Al Voiles, President. The meeting was started with a prayer and the pledge of allegiance.

MinutesMinutes are posted on the website.

Treasurers Report – Delores was not present to make a report. Al has new checks for her.

New Business---

Al discussed the proper cover to wear at meetings. The official cover is the American Legion cap.

The beret can be worn at ALR meetings or functions but all meetings such as Post, District, Convention, etc. the AL cap is the official cover.

Jake Jacobson (Area 5 Representative) wants to know if anyone is interested in taking over this position. Elections are coming up. He also wanted to know if we want two different conventions because all take place in the northern part of California right now. It seems that there should be only one convention but the location should be alternated between north and south locations each year. It was also discussed that the Chapters in the southern part of the state should meet to discuss this. It is possible that there are larger numbers of ALR members in the southern part of California.

Al gave the By-Laws and the Constitution to Butch to post on the website.

Yucaipa members are selling commemorative knives with a portion of the proceeds going to charity. Al will be selling these for $15.

Al brought an article regarding Casa Colina Hospital and the work they do.

Doyle made a motion to donate $50 to the Hometown Heroes Banner Program. There was a second and it was voted and passed. Doyle also spoke about the “Wreaths Across America” event coming up on December 13th.

Butch thanked American Legion Post 79 for hosting our meeting. He recognized guests Mike and Alfred and noted that Alfred has submitted his paperwork to apply for membership to Chapter 777. He also noted that Jaime has paid dues and will be a full member once his membership is completed with the SAL. John and Nettie have paid their dues and it was voted to admit them.

Butch had flyers for the “Welcome Home” event at the Rose Bowl on Jan. 17, 2009 and would like to make this event a Chapter 777 ride.

The meeting was ended early in order to support a PGR mission at the cemetery in Pomona. We suspended the ride to Oak Glen for apple pie for now.

Al would like to see more members from different local areas to have more of a presence for Chapter 777.

Al had ALR stickers for our American Legion membership cards.

Next Meeting & Ride—The next meeting will be December 21rst (Sunday) probably at AL Post 777 and possibly at 1:00pm to accommodate as many people as possible.

Meeting was adjourned at 10:55am

                                    Chapter 777

December 21, 2009

Officers Present:  Al Voiles – Pres., Butch Schmid – VP, Dolores Brown – Treasurer, Bob Brown – Road Captain,  John E. Nanney filled in as Secretary for Ed Hall.

Meeting called to order at 1010 hours by Al Voiles, President.  The meeting was started with the pledge of allegiance.

Minutes:  Posted to website.

New Business: Al Voiles introduced Debbie Faris of Garden of angels Inc. a not for profit organization.  She gave an overview of how the organization was started in 1996 when she saw a small baby discarded in a trash can and reported on TV News.  She has grown the work with the help of many.  One of the major successes of the organization was the passage of the Safe Surrender for Newborns, a law first introduced in the state of California by her and members of the ALR.  This law has now spread across the U.S. to almost every state in the union.  She is also the sponsor of the Angles Garden where over 83 children have been buried.  The first burial was performed on August 26, 1996.  She then provided lapel pins and a broacher giving in-depth information on the organization.

She concluded her presentation by thanking the American Legion Riders Chapter 777 for our support.  She stated that she was very grateful and looked forward to a long and continued relationship.

Al Voiles then suggested that we make a patch resembling the Garden of Angles lapel pin that Debbie had passed out.  Butch Schmid volunteered to do this initial research to have that done.

Next Al Voiles suggested that Chapter 777 is the largest chapter in California and that he would like to see the chapter get even larger.  He feels that we need to reach out to other Posts to recruit whomever we can.   The larger we become the more visible and prominent we are which will then make our ability to serve the communities more viable and stronger.

Al then provided an update on Doyle Tolbert who had back surgery.  He is at home resting and recovering and a group of ALR where headed over to his house after the meeting.

Al then provided an update on Ed Hall who is recovering from a motorcycle accident.  He is doing well but has still many more surgeries ahead of him.  With a very long list of injuries to deal with including broken ribs, both legs broken, a back injury, and other such issues.  Bonnie, Ed’s wife has asked that individual ALR members not call her direct.  This will allow her the ability to concentrate on Ed’s needs and her family.  If ALR members would like updates or information, please seek that information out through Al, Butch or Steve Kawecki who will coordinate the Chapters support efforts.

Butch Schmid then sent two Get Well cards around for member to sign.

Butch then spoke of Doyle starting the Veterans Without Families (VWF) through the Patriot Guard Riders (PGR) and how it has been very successful.

Butch then thank the chapter for donating two wreaths to the Wreaths Across America this year.  One was laid at a VFW grave site in Riverside National Cemetery and the other was laid at a veteran grave site in Pacifica Cemetery.

He then updated the chapter on the Snowball Express.  It was a huge success this year with many PGR and ALR members attending one or all three days of the event.  Next year it will be in Dallas Texas, and then it will be back to Southern California in 2010.

Reminder that 2009 dues are still not 100% paid.  If you have not paid, please take time to make out a check as soon as you can.

Welcome Home Defenders of Freedom January 17, 2009.  ALR members should try to make this event and ride in together.  The event is to welcome home our military from Iraq and Afghanistan campaigns.  It will be in the Pasadena Rose Bowl.  ALR will meet at a To Be Announced location and ride to the event as a group.  Further information will be emailed out soon.

Chapter 777 is planning a Poker Run fund raiser in May 2009.  Need a committee formed to develop and plan the run.

We also want Chapter 777 to participate in the up-coming CHOC toy ride.  Details to follow.

The ALR website will be updated with the By Laws.

Treasurers Report:   Dolores reported the current ending Balance of $911.02.  There were two deposits of $170 and $110 dollars and then the payment of

Bob Brown thanked the chapter for the fundraiser for Fontana Banners for our Military.  He reported that $1,027 was raised.  This money helped purchase 52 Banners which have now been put up in the city.  There are 14 more on order, and they are now looking to raise the funds for an additional 40.

Next Meeting & Ride:  The next meeting will be held on Sunday January 25, 2009.  We are going to try and hold it at Post 53 located in Hemet California.

Jan meeting will be held at post 262 in Fontana at 10:30 AM.

Meeting was adjourned at 1115 hours.

Chapter 777

February 22, 2009

Officers Present:  Al Voiles – Pres., Butch Schmid – VP, Doyle Tolbert  RC, Karen Schmid Temporary Secretary for Ed Hall.

Meeting called to order at 0950 hours by Al Voiles, President.  The meeting was started with the pledge of allegiance.  Prayer by Jaime Gonzalez.

Minutes:  Posted to website.

New Business:

Election is coming; Al stated he would not be running again.

Al stated that he had been contacted by the San Bernardino Fire Department for the Berdoo Bike Run which had been sponsored by the Business & Tourism Department of San Bernardino.  They declined to do the run this year and the Fire Department took it and asked if we would help them.  We can set up a booth for membership there as well.  Date is May 9th.  Randy Lee has been in contact with them as well since we are trying to do a Poker Run, it may be a good idea to help so we can get the experience.  Al presented a proposed flyer for our poker run.  Keith also made fliers for us to review.

May 9th is also the Auto & Bike Show at the Ontario Airport.  The proceeds go to the USO.   Past veterans are our main goal, so this may take precedence over the bike run.  We do have enough members in our chapter that we can volunteer to do both.  We just need to figure out how many volunteers are needed for each event.  Also we need to find out if the USO has a specific goal for our chapter or are we only to participate by setting up a booth?  Butch will send out information to try to have answers by the next meeting.

Guests were introduced by Butch:

Butch Phillips

Darlene Phillips

Barbara Anhaeuser

Bill Alexander

Bill Muller

Adrian Morton – ALR 555

Runs:

Saturday, 6/27/09 the ALR District 12 – Turlock will be having an overnighter run.

Saturday, 3/21/09, Sons of the American Legion and ALR 53 will be having a poker run. Short run about 38 miles, if you register before 3/14 you pay $20, after that it is $23.  Butch will pick a meeting place and send out the information.

The National Convention is in Riverside this year June 18 through 21st.  They need the ALR participation.

Treasury currently $986.02

The 25th District golf tournament is Saturday, 4/25 to benefit the Loma Linda VA Health Care Services in San Bernardino and Riverside areas.  Cost per player is $75.

Emergency information cards need to be completed and turned in to RC’s as soon as possible if you haven’t done so.  JT will bring at next meeting.  Both RC’s will have a book with the cards in the event of emergency.

At the last meeting we discussed buying an ALR/AL banner.  Single face is $99 with or without fringe, double face is $200 with or without fringe.  Looking for a full size flag 3” x 5’ to go on the back of a bike when we are on rides.

Post 422 – 25th District – Veteran’s Rehabilitation dinner at 6 PM

Post 777 golf tournament 3/14 at Shannon Hills

Post 777 tacos 3/24 at 5 PM by Victor

Post 777 Laughlin Bus Trip is March 29, 30, 31

Ed Hall is using a special walker now, first steps this week and is making progress.  Currently he has a staph infection on his leg so if you visit, you must be sterile.  Special arrangements must be made if a large group is planning on visiting Ed.  Doyle will check and let us know the procedure.

Doyle is recovering well from is back surgery.

Hawkeye’s wife is recovering and wearing a back brace after falling off a horse 6 months ago.

Billie’s step-father had heart surgery and mother is ill, currently both are recovering.

Travis’ wife is in Peru as her father is very ill.

New ALR Members:

Gilda Tolbert – Post 262

Robert Bell – Post 299

Both were voted in.  Gilda’s dues were paid, Robert’s were not at this time.

Hawkeye brought in a plaque that the PGR was presented with for their efforts in welcoming home troops.

Again, Al explained to everyone the purpose of the PGR.

There was a committee meeting on 2/17 regarding our poker run.  Only 5 members showed up and we can not put on a poker run without more volunteers.  We need people to get sponsors and donations.  The run would end at the Wooden Nickel, the owner Randy is a member of ALR 777.  We will plan another meeting in March.  It is going to take a lot of effort to get this ready for June and without more participation from our members this will not happen.

Currently we have 42 members plus the two voted in today totaling 44 members.  We value all our members and we need members to be able to function. We will try to have fun rides as often as we can, however, we do have other obligations as a service organization.

We need to begin electing new officers next month.  The elected officers are:

President; Vice President; Secretary; Treasurer; Lead Road Captain; Road Captain; and

Sergeant of Arms

Appointed officers:

Judge Advocate; Chaplain; Activities Director; and Historian.

JT reported that last year the Provide a Ride for the Blind was a fun event.  Cindy started it 3 ½ years ago but can not do it this year.  Doyle, Gilda, Butch, Karen, JT and Billie will meet with Cindy to try to see about this becoming “our” event.  Ride is in July/August.  The riders pay to participate, possibly charge more to donate money to Garden of Angels.  There will be an update on the meeting at our next meeting.  Mortie said that ALR 555 could help, someone would just need to present the event to them at a meeting.

April 18 is the Riverside Veteran’s Parade.  John Nanney is the ride captain for this.  Vietnam Vets will ride too.

City of San Bernardino contacted No Chute about banners for the troops. These banners are to hang around the city.

Cultural Center in Rancho Cucamonga has seats available for ever performance for vets.  No Chute to contact hospitals for cooperation in getting the vets there.

There is a White House tour on the Run for the Wall.  They are leaving 5/15/09, No Chute wants a ALR 777 banner for this.  RFTW cost $10 to sign up whether you ride or not.

Doyle reported that there is a Welcome Home Vietnam Veterans day on 3/29 in Whittier at California High School.  It starts at 11 AM till 6 PM.  There will be vendors and military vehicles there.

Yorba Linda Veteran Memorial dedication coming up – maybe next month.  We might be able to schedule a ride to attend.

There is a flag retirement ceremony upcoming at the City of Rancho Cucamonga.  Al will try to get date.

The flag lowering ceremony at the circle in Orange at 6 PM every Wednesday.  While the flag is being lowered, TAPS is being played.  The news media is beginning to take notice.

$10,000 was made for the Garden of Angels at the dinner last week.

On October 17 there will be a fund raiser for Casa Colina at the Chino Fairgrounds.  Doyle will give more information later as we need to supply man power for this event.

Al contacted Cal State SB regarding the soccer field.  They did not have a flag or pole for the first game.  They wanted the flag to be dedicated by 777 after installed.

Butch has the Garden of Angels patches.  Our cost is $12 each, we are selling for $15 each.  The $3 will go to the GOA.  We ordered 30 and paid for them, so we are needing to be reimbursed.  We can order more as needed.

Next meeting is Saturday. March 21, after the Hemet poker run.  Time and location will be worked out.  Jaime moved for that date, No Chute seconded.

Meeting adjourned at 1053 for ride.

Karen Schmid

One of the cards will go to him also.

Hawkeye talked about the Ft. Irwin tour. He proposed we ride out during the next four months. It will be a day long ride. He suggested stopping at Peggy Sue’s for breakfast and then on to Ft. Irwin. Chapter 777

March 20, 2010

Officers Present: Butch Schmid --Pres., Doyle Tolbert --VP, Ed Hall--Sec., Bud Phillips--Sgt.-at-Arms

Meeting called to order at 11:20am by Butch, President. The meeting was started with the pledge of allegiance led by Butch.

Butch announced that Delores had to resign due to personal reasons. She was thanked for her service and all materials were turned over to Doyle. We’ll need a new Treasurer.

MinutesThe minutes were read and approved.

Treasurers Report- Al reported we have $1736.85 in the account.

Officer’s Reports- Butch reported that there was no February meeting.

He also noted that elections were coming up. Everyone needs to pay their dues if they aren’t paid. Doyle is collecting dues and 12 people were paid as of now. The group is getting smaller but we don’t want the Chapter to fall apart.

Carol from Post 777 sent a calendar of events and would like the riders to have more participation in Post activities.

April 10th is the Walk-A-Thon and Brian is challenging the recruiting station. Butch suggested ALR 777 sponsor Brian’s effort. Al’s wife is also involved. Registration is at 8:00am and the walk starts at 9:00am with lunch at noon. Proceeds go to the Children’s Miracle Network and Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles. There was a motion and second to sponsor Brian and Al’s wife for $50 each. The motion was voted and passed.

The Dignity Wall Escort will be escorting the Viet Nam Moving Wall. Those interested in riding need to be at the Jack In The Box at I15 and Baseline for kickstands up at 6:00am. Staging will be at Rose Hills and there will be barbeque, drinks, etc. Volunteers are still needed for duty at Rose Hills between March 23rd and 30th.

March 27th will be the Wild Game Feed at Post 519 in Palm Springs. Donation is $10 and the money goes to benefit the Palm Springs USO.

March 28th is the Viet Nam Veterans Welcome Home. This will be at Whittier High School from 11:00am to 6:00pm. Post 79 in Riverside will have a dinner that day also.

The 4th Annual Run For The Wall barbeque will be at Raytheon in El Segundo on April 10th.

The ALR Convention will be April 16th through the 18th in Midway City. We are authorized 4 delegates for the convention Doyle and Bud are likely and John and Nettie are possible.

April 17th is the 5th Annual Salute To Veterans parade at 10:00am in the Inland Empire.

Old Business-  none

New Business –Doyle reported that the West Coast Thunder will bypass the Riverside National Cemetery this year to go to a local casino. The PGR and ALR are planning a ride to the cemetery instead.

Doyle also mentioned the Chapter 53 Poker Run and said he would put out an e-mail with all the information.

There were nominations for new officers this month and again next month. The vote will be in after all nominations are in. The following nominations were made: President—Keith Armstrong, Vice President—Randy Lee, Treasurer—Al Voiles, Sgt.-at-Arms—Brian Hutson and the Secretary spot is still open.

Terry Wells stated he would help where needed.

There was a question about sending courtesy packages to the troops overseas. Post 777 has the means to do this and normally coordinates this effort with an organization in Running Springs on a continual basis.

Next Meeting & Ride-The next meeting will be April 11, 2010 (Saturday) at 11:30am at Post 777.

The meeting was adjourned at 10:05am.

Respectfully submitted,

Chapter 777

June 27, 2010

Officers Present: Keith Armstrong—Pres., Lance Otey—Secretary, Al Voiles—Treasurer, Carlos Quiroz—Historian, Wes Mays—Lead Road Captain, David Laskowski—Road Captain
Members Present: Bear Phillips, Darlene Phillips, Butch Schmid, Terry Wells
Guests: Doyle Tolbert

Meeting called to order at 1125 hrs by Keith, President. The meeting was started with the pledge of allegiance, led by Keith.

Minutes: The minutes from the last meeting, April 11, 2010, were not read. No meeting was held in May.

Treasurer’s Report: Al reported that we had a balance of $1922. Keith submitted two receipts for the purchase of a walnut gavel ($22.95) and {not sure what the item was} ($40.19). Al reported that our bank, Arrowhead Credit Union, was in receivership. Discussion ensued and it was agreed that the chapter will monitor the events and not change banks at this time.
The per capita information will be collected by the Vice President and submitted to Al. Al will then send a check to National.

Old Business: Members were reminded about escorting the Wall on Thursday, 07-01-10 to the Fontana Speedway.
Butch brought up a run to raise money to customize a bike for a soldier that lost his legs. The run is Saturday, 07-24-10.
Doyle brought up a run that included Area 5 Meet and Greet in Palm Springs on 10-23-10. More information will be forthcoming. It was discussed that we have our monthly meeting in Palm Springs for this run and spend the night.

New Business: Lance Otey was presented for membership into the riders and then voted in as Treasurer. Wes Mays was voted in as Lead Road Captain, David Laskowski was voted in as Road Captain, and Carlos Quiroz was voted in as Historian. There were no dissenting votes.

Members were asked to send out feelers for charities that we can donate to. Wes has furniture to donate and is looking for a recipient.
Keith suggested that our fundraisers keep to Veteran and local organizations. Bear and others felt we should keep Garden of Angels as a primary charity. Discussion led to the consensus that we keep Garden of Angels as a secondary charity. Al suggested that members put in man hours at the Garden of Angels, which would allow us to reduce the monetary donations.
Butch asked what charities the Post donates to. The response was that the ladies support Frazee Center for the homeless; SAL supports a baseball group for the handicapped; and the Post supports the VA Hospital.

The ALR has 15 members that are current with their dues. We should evaluate and drop those that are not current. Al pointed out that per the by-laws, if members have not paid by Jan 1 of the current year, they are considered delinquent. If the dues are paid on or before February 1st, that person shall be reinstated automatically. If the person continues to be delinquent after February 1st, that member shall be suspended from all privileges, including the privilege of wearing the identifying insignia of the ALR. If the member is still delinquent as of June 13th of that year, his/her membership in the ALR shall be forfeited.
Al reminded all members that we are recruiters and need to bring in prospective members. Keith added that he has been running ads in the paper and business cards will be made to hand out.

Butch gave the excess Christmas cards that he had been storing to the Board for future use and storage.
Tank suggested that the road captains list where we are going to ride after each meeting prior to the next meeting and advise everyone.

Al will take care of submitting the certification of the new officers.

Next Meeting: Sunday, July 25, 2010 at 1100 hrs at Post 777.
The meeting was adjourned at 1225 hrs.

Respectfully submitted,
Lance Otey, 2010 Secretary Chapter 777 American Legion Riders
